    Rail Yards Blog is a new online resource created by Friends of the High Line for all news about the West Side Rail Yards planning process. Here, you will find background information on the site, the planning process and the potential rail yards developers, feedback from the surrounding community, and up-to-date press coverage. We began this blog because we noticed a void in information about this major Manhattan site. While we are primarily concerned with the treatment of the High Line at the rail yards, we are also dedicated to making sure the planning process is as inclusive, transparent and community-oriented as possible. By sharing information and creating a platform for dialogue, Rail Yards Blog is a tool to stay informed and get involved in shaping this important New York site.

About the Rail Yards

 The West Side Rail Yards is the site of Manhattan’s largest-scale planned development.  At 26.2 acres, the rail yards site is twice the size of Ground Zero, and larger than Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn. The site stretches from 10th Avenue to 12th Avenue, and between 30th and 33rd Streets. It is owned by the MTA, a state agency, but is slated for private development, determined by an MTA-run bidding process. The site is a currently a working rail yard, serving as a holding terminus for Long Island Rail Road trains.
